"The way to the other side of a feeling is through it, not around it."

AZ GROWTH welcomes Cathy Stevens as our exclusive trained art therapist on staff. She is an intern working towards her MFT and ATR licenses.

She doesn’t believe in “unhealthy” feelings and behavior. Instead, she thinks ideas and habits are adopted because they are initially in the client’s best interest, but as the client’s circumstances change, these behaviors and concepts may need updating.

Cathy received her 60-unit Master of Arts degree in Psychology in 2007 from Phillips Graduate Institute in Encino, California. Her degree emphasizes Marriage and Family Therapy and Art Therapy, and her coursework taught her to link client art with neuroscience, the stress response, the immune system, and the family life cycle.

Cathy fell in love with art therapy as a Fine Arts undergraduate student at James Madison University in Virginia, where she had the opportunity to take an Introduction to Art Therapy elective course. After working with parolees for an afternoon with her class, amazed at how creating art together deepened communication, she was hooked.

Since then, Cathy has worked with individuals, couples, families, children, and groups. She is certified to facilitate Domestic Violence groups, perform MARI Mandala Assessments, and use Seemorg Matrix techniques.

To schedule an appointment with Cathy, please call (818) 605-7750
or e-mail* at cathystevens.therapy@gmail.com.
